Shipborne Voyage Data Recorder (VDR), also known as the “ship black box”, is used to collect and record all kinds of navigation data in real time during ship navigation, including time, position, speed, water depth, heading, wheelhouse sound, communication sound, wind speed, wind direction, alarm information, etc., which plays a pivotal role in the ship’s investigation of the cause of the accident, the search for evidence chain, qualitative and aftermath treatment.
The Headway ® Marine Voyage Data Recorder (HMT-100A) is approved by the IMO Executive Standard MSC 333(90) and complies with IEC61161-1-2013, IEC 60945 specifications. The system covers floating data protectors, sinking data protectors, as well as host units, standby power supplies, remote collection units, remote alarm units and microphones, etc., which can realize the collection and storage of various information data within 30 days of ship navigation.
- Main Chassis Embedded Linux operating system, higher reliability, light equipment, small size, suitable for various types of ship installation. The power is as low as 20W, no fan cooling is required, and the chassis is fully enclosed to minimize dust ingress.

Sink Data Protector When a ship is wrecked, the "sinking data protector" will sink to the bottom with the ship, and at the same time, by sending sonar signals, it will help search and rescue personnel quickly locate the ship's sinking location underwater. Headway shipborne navigation data recorder "sunken data protector" can record 48 hours of ship navigation data, its external material is titanium steel, the interior is composed of insulation, cold insulation layer and memory, with strong fire resistance, blister resistance, extrusion resistance, anti-high-altitude fall, anti-electromagnetic interference and other characteristics, the relevant experimental standards are clearly required in the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC61996 specification (issued in 2000) (see below) -
- Puncture: an object weighing 100 kg with a cone with a diameter of 250 mm falls from a height of 3 meters;
- Shock: 50g half-sine pulse, lasting 11ms;
- Fire resistance: 10 hours at 260 degrees Celsius, 1 hour at 1100 degrees Celsius;
- Deep-sea pressure: 6,000 meters of water depth pressure and 30 days of seawater immersion in seawater.

Floating Data Protector When the ship sinks, the "floating data protector" pops out and floats to the surface, and with the help of the function of the satellite positioning marker, it sends a distress signal to the International Search and Rescue Satellite System (COSPAS-SARSAT) and reports the current location, helping rescuers to confirm the wrecked location at the first time and carry out rescue as soon as possible.
