The Highlander VMS is used to track and monitor the activities of fishing fleets, law enforcement vessels and commercial vessels.  It collects information about vessel whereabouts and operations and sends it ashore. Data transmission is achieved over a number of different channels such as to contain costs. In coastal waters wireless mobile networks such as 4G and even 3G can be used. When the vessel is far offshore the system switches over to satellite networks.

System integrity is ensured by means of proprietary data encryption and tamperproof hardware.

Shore side fleet monitoring is based on Highlander interactive mapping software featuring precise geo-referencing and extensive on-screen measurement tools. Custom geometric areas can be created by the user and special purpose maps can be imported and displayed.

Additional features include access to weather forecasting services, report generation and automatic notification by email and mobile telephone text message.
